“Inclusive Campus” by Yezi Lin

I am interested in sociology, so I want to focus on combining architectural design and social equality, justice, gender equality, and so on. I wish to create a university campus that is full of humanism, social equality, and diversity.

Now we are facing numerous social issues that can be deeply researched and thought about such as gender equality, faculty staffs’ diversity, study programs diversity, and so on (Sturm, 2006). As the world is changing rapidly, it is urgent to design learning spaces for diverse people from every place of the world, in every financial situation and religion and so on, to bring people and building together. There are several disadvantaged groups of students I wish to help: disabled students, care leavers, estranged students…

For my future design of the building, as my conceptual model shows, it is a public building in the common area that every student can use and benefit from it. The structure of the public pavilion is open and dynamic, it is meant to show that this is a design that is highly inclusive and open to everyone. For this conceptual model, I don’t want to stick to a traditional architectural shape, they are meant to show an area that can be like a family community for every student inside the campus.

    About me

I am Yezi Lin, a postgraduate architectural design student. I am personally highly interested in sociology, so in my design studio, I wish to focus on social equality and diversity, help to create an architecture that all students can use equally, helping to create a better university campus environment.
